Tara Lynn Ramsey

Tara Lynn Ramsey enjoys a varied career as a chamber musician, new music interpreter, orchestral leader, and teacher. As a violinist and violist, she has been a prizewinner of the Darius Milhaud Performance Prize and of the inaugural Dover Quartet Competition at Northwestern University. Tara Lynn performed at the 2016 Kennedy Center Honors with cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and will join him in a string quartet performance at his 2017 Concert for Peace on Chicago’s south side.

As soloist, Tara Lynn recently appeared with the Chicago Sinfonietta in Vivaldi’s Concerto for 4 Violins in B minor, and with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago in Bach’s Brandenburg Concerti Nos. 4 and 5. She has served as concertmaster of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, and numerous festival orchestras. Tara Lynn was a 2013 fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, and has performed as a guest with the New World Symphony and the Cleveland Pops Orchestra.

An advocate for new music and its intensity of expression, Tara Lynn joined the roster of Ensemble Dal Niente in 2017 and has been a guest artist on the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s MusicNOW series. She spent several years as an active member of the Cleveland new music scene, performing with the Ars Futura, Blue Streak, and UNION ensembles. With flutist Shanna Gutierrez and keyboardist Andrew Rosenblum, Tara Lynn recently cofounded the ensemble Memoria Nova, which programs lesser-known works from across the spectrum of musical history.

As a Civic Orchestra Fellow in the 2016-17 season, Tara Lynn worked with hundreds of students in the Chicago Public Schools, performed chamber music in community venues, spoke to diverse audiences, and contributed to artistic programming, project design, and grant-writing. She greatly valued this opportunity to connect with the greater Chicago community, and continues to serve as a faculty member of the People’s Music School.

Tara Lynn holds degrees from Northwestern University and the Cleveland Institute of Music, where her primary teachers were Blair Milton and David Updegraff.
